Abraham Palatnik Exhibition
—The Reinvention of Painting

Introduction

This exhibition draws inspiration from the innovative spirit of Brazilian artist Abraham Palatnik and his exploration of the reinvention of painting. Known for his groundbreaking work in kinetic art and his fusion of painting with technology, Palatnik's approach to visual perception reshaped how we understand the boundaries of the medium.
In this newly conceptualized exhibition, the site of the Milan Triennale—one of the world’s leading institutions for contemporary art—is reimagined to push the boundaries of how painting can interact with space, time, and audience engagement. Taking cues from Palatnik’s signature use of movement, light, and color, the exhibit challenges the traditional static canvas and incorporates dynamic, immersive installations that provoke a sensory experience.

Progressions and Reliefs
Paintings seem in move
Abraham Palatniks' paintings belong to Optical Art. It's a calculated "art of vision" that uses bright colors to create a dazzling vibrating effect for visual excitement, Optical art refers to the art of painting drawn by the use of human visual illusions.
Kinetic Objects
Motive Mechanical Paintings
While many kineticists considered the essence of the art form to be contained within the viewer’s movement, Abraham Palatnik integrated this movement into the structure of the piece itself. He constructed special machines that would set elements of his works into action
Kinechromatic Devices
Motive Mechanical Lights Paintings
On a plastic screen covering the front of his devices, Palatnik’s kinechromatic projected colors and forms driven by electric motors, creating a luminous effect with its own timing. Using motors and light bulbs, he replaced paint-as a material

The paintings are mainly showed by hanging , and the wires are thin and they form some curves rather than square shapes, as if they were floating in mid-air, reinforcing the unstable feeling of floating movement that the paintings give.

Kinechromatic Devices is presented in a darkened, intimate screening space, where each work is placed within its own compartment, reinforcing the cinematic quality of the experience.
The exhibition concludes with another interactive installation where visitors can freely select material from a wall shelf and place it on a pedestal with a rotating mechanism to create a Kinetic Objects of their own

The colored lights and rotating machinery create a giant movie box that allows the audience to step inside and experience the changing light and shadows inside the box, while allowing the dynamic audience to become part of the production.
